Why exterior emulsion is different from interior paint

Interior emulsions are not designed for continuous weather exposure. Exterior emulsion has:

Surface preparation (most important step)

Clean the wall — remove dust, loose particles and algae
Repair cracks and uneven areas
Apply a suitable cement primer (exterior-interior grade)
Allow the primer to dry fully
Apply 2 coats of exterior emulsion

Skipping primer is one of the main reasons exterior paint fails early.

How many coats?

For most exterior walls:

2 coats of exterior emulsion on a primed surface

On very porous or previously untreated walls, a third coat may be needed.

Climate tips for Eastern India

Avoid painting just before heavy rain
Do not apply on damp walls — fix dampness first with a damp-proof primer if needed
Choose colours that suit strong sunlight (very dark shades can fade faster on west-facing walls)
